Members of the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) Accounting and Finance Club (AFC) gained first-hand industry exposure during an educational industrial visit to Grant Thornton Malaysia on 27 January 2026.

Organised by the student-led club, the visit was guided by AFC Advisor, Mr Kannan Asokan, and supported by Senior Lecturer, Ms Phuah Eng Sze, from the School of Accounting and Finance (SoAF).

The visit aimed to complement classroom learning by helping students understand industry expectations, career pathways and the practical application of accounting and forensic knowledge, while also giving them a first-hand experience of a leading global accounting and advisory firm.

A key highlight of the programme was an engaging sharing session conducted by professionals from Grant Thornton, who introduced the firm’s core services, including audit, tax and advisory, as well as emerging areas such as risk management and forensic services.

The speakers also shared their personal career journeys and offered practical guidance on professional development, emphasising the importance of technical expertise, ethical judgement, adaptability and continuous learning in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape.

Students were also given a guided tour of the office, where they observed the firm’s dynamic working environment and gained a deeper appreciation of workplace culture, teamwork and professional conduct within a global organisation.

The visit concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students engaged actively with the speakers on topics such as internship opportunities, professional certifications and the expectations placed on graduates entering the accounting and finance profession.

Reflecting on the experience, Muhammad Umair Moniaruth, President of AFC and an Accounting Technology (AccTech) student, said organising and participating in the industrial visit to Grant Thornton Malaysia was a valuable experience.

“It gave us a clearer understanding of the firm’s working environment and the career opportunities available within the accounting profession.”
