Recently, students from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Bursa Young Investors Club (BYIC) embarked on an educational visit to Bursa Malaysia.
The group comprised primarily students pursuing Banking and Finance, with participation also from International Business Management, Actuarial Studies, Computer Science, and Information Technology.
Accompanied by Ms Durrah Dhaniyah (Lecturer, School of Accounting and Finance at APU) and Dr Ahmad Danial Zainudin (Senior Lecturer, School of Accounting and Finance at APU), the visit was designed to bridge theoretical classroom learning with real-world market practices, offering students valuable insights and experiences that cannot be fully obtained through classroom sessions alone, while providing first-hand exposure to Malaysia’s capital market ecosystem and a deeper practical understanding of industry practices.

The visit unfolded through a series of structured knowledge-sharing sessions led by representatives from Bursa Malaysia, designed to provide students with deeper insights into the Malaysian capital market.
During these sessions, students explored key areas including market awareness, derivatives, and Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs).
Students were also introduced to investor empowerment platforms such as MyBURSA, demonstrating how digital tools enhance transparency, accessibility, and informed decision-making among investors.

After the knowledge-sharing sessions has concluded, students were taken on a guided tour of the Bursa Malaysia Knowledge Centre, which served as a key highlight of the visit.
At the centre, they had the opportunity to observe archived prospectuses, regulatory documents, and records of delisted companies; to which the experience offered valuable insight into disclosure practices, compliance requirements, and the historical evolution of Malaysia’s capital market framework.
Student Perspectives

- Jessica Griselda, Bachelor in Banking and Finance (Hons) with a specialism in Financial Technology: “The visit was a meaningful learning experience, providing insights into market structure, risk management, and investment instruments, while giving me a clearer perspective on how the capital market operates and how this knowledge can support my future career in finance.”
- Tan Yu Xuan, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Actuarial Studies: “The Bursa Malaysia visit provided me valuable insights into the workings of the capital market, offering a deeper understanding of investment instruments and practical applications in a way that was both engaging and enlightening.”
Expanding Knowledge and Industry Insight

The educational visit to Bursa Malaysia provided students with a unique opportunity to connect the theoretical concepts they have learned in the classroom with real-world practices and operations within the capital market.
Through a combination of interactive sessions, engaging discussions, and guided tours, students were able to gain practical insights into how Malaysia’s financial markets function on a day-to-day basis.
Overall, the visit left students inspired to approach the world of finance with greater knowledge, confidence, and analytical thinking, equipping them to make informed and responsible decisions in their future careers.
