The Actuarial Science Club (ASC) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) organised an enriching online workshop titled “ResuLinked: Your path to standing out” on 20th September 2025.

The workshop aimed to equip students with the practical knowledge and professional insights needed to enhance their resumes and LinkedIn profiles for future career opportunities.

The workshop featured Ms Karen M Das, Human Resources Business Partner at Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad, and Ms Charlene Yee Chia Ling, Human Resources Innovation People Partner at Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad, as the esteemed speakers.

Deep-Dive into Resume crafting

The workshop began with an insightful walkthrough of resume essentials, where Ms Karen and Ms Charlene reviewed the resumes submitted by students.

They highlighted what should and should not be included, offering practical, personalised feedback to help students refine their resumes.

Through this focused review, students gained a clearer understanding of common pitfalls, effective formatting, and the key elements recruiters prioritise when evaluating applications.

This segment also helped students recognise how small improvements can significantly enhance the overall quality and impact of their resumes.

LinkedIn branding and Recruiter Insights

Following the resume crafting segment, Ms Karen and Ms Charlene introduced students to how recruiters navigate and evaluate profiles on LinkedIn.

They highlighted the importance of using clear, relevant keywords to enhance visibility and improve alignment with job opportunities.

This segment also covered how profile structure, activity, and content influence a candidate’s chances of appearing in recruiter searches.

Through these insights, students gained a stronger understanding of how to build a compelling online presence that effectively supports their career goals.

Interactive Interview role-play experience

One of the workshop’s key highlights was the interview role-play session.

Three volunteers participated in a dynamic simulation, where two students acted as interviewers, while one took on the role of job candidate.

Using a realistic job description, they demonstrated how an actual interview unfolds, followed by personalised commentary from Ms Karen and Ms Charlene on the strengths displayed and areas for improvement.

The activity proved to be both engaging and highly educational, giving students a realistic glimpse into interview dynamics, while deepening their understanding of what truly makes a candidate stand out.

From learning to Career readiness

The “ResuLinked” workshop offered students valuable career preparation and practical insights, helping them gain confidence and a clearer understanding of how to navigate their professional journeys.

By participating in such hands-on, industry-focused experiences, students are better equipped to develop the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to thrive in a competitive and ever-evolving job market.
