The APU Taekwondo Club shone at the Polytechnic Taekwondo Championship 2025 in Shah Alam, winning three Gold and one Silver in the Kyorugi category. Despite minor injuries, the team showed great skill and determination, reflecting APU’s commitment to excellence in both sports and academics.

The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) proudly celebrates the achievements of its Taekwondo Club athletes, who showcased exceptional talent and determination at the Polytechnic Taekwondo Championship 2025, held from 10 to 12 October 2025 at Dewan Al-Jazari, Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Shah Alam, Selangor.
The tournament, organised by the Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia (MASUM) in collaboration with the host institution, brought together athletes from various universities and polytechnics across the country.
The championship featured two main categories — Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae (forms) — with APU participants competing exclusively in the Kyorugi events.
APU fielded eight athletes and two coaches, following minor adjustments made before the competition.
Months of dedicated training sessions were held to prepare the team, focusing on skill refinement, conditioning, and mental readiness.
Despite a few injuries and some athletes experiencing their first major tournament, the team delivered outstanding performances, demonstrating courage, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the event.

APU Taekwondo Club’s athletes proudly brought home three gold medals and one silver, marking a stellar performance for the university.
Amin Aminov impressed by securing two gold medals, winning in both the Kyorugi Individual (Junior) and Kyorugi Individual (Senior) categories.
John Ting Chok Lee delivered a strong performance, earning one gold medal in the Kyorugi Individual event.
Park Jiyeon also shone in the competition, achieving one silver medal in the Kyorugi Individual category.
Unfortunately, Adonai had to withdraw due to a toe injury upon medical advice, while Chew Chyiming sustained a mild ankle sprain prior to his match, which affected his performance.

Fortunately, no major injuries were reported, and all athletes made a full recovery by the following week’s training session.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Mr Ahmad Mohammad, Assistant Manager of Sports Development and Student Affairs, expressed their performance was astounding, and their mentality was equally impressive.
“Most of the athletes performed up to standard and showed remarkable composure under pressure. Despite being new to competitive tournaments, they gave their best and made us all proud.”
The achievements of the APU Taekwondo Club highlight the university’s commitment to fostering excellence not only in academics but also in sports and personal development.
Congratulations once again to Amin Aminov, John Ting Chok Lee, and Park Jiyeon for their outstanding success and for flying the APU flag high at the Polytechnic Taekwondo Championship 2025!
